Herman Cain can win?
Florida sent a shockwave through the political scene last week, when nearly 1,000 delegates of the Republican Party of Florida Herman Cain chose as their standard bearer. Cain received 37% of the delegates against Perry Romney 15% to 14%. And unlike many experts turn that it was a protest vote against Perry, is evident from the Florida delegates themselves, that their votes reflect the belief that Herman Cain is the real deal.
Coupling the results of several performances in Florida with a strong debate recently, Herman Cain has catapulted his campaign in the top nationally, according to recent surveys. But Herman Cain is just another “flavor of the week” as some politicians suggest?
We all know that early polls do not mean much. We have seen that in 2008 with Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thompson. In this cycle we have witnessed the nomination of the rise and fall of Donald Trump (thankfully), Michele Bachmann, and to a lesser extent, Rick Perry. So what is it about Herman Cain that he can dispense with a similar fate? Read the rest of this entry »

In two recent accounts, trends show increasingly that the sustainable seafood movement is growing roots. In the National Restaurant Association’s annual chef survey, What’s Hot in 2010, sustainable seafood was featured in several ways. In order to be successful, chefs often need to keep up with the hottest trends. Their message coming out of this report is ‘pay attention to sustainability and local foods.’ In the other account, a leading online seafood industry news and opinion site reported on an increase in job positions being created for CSOs…Chief Sustainability Officers. Unfortunately, memorable is not the word used to describe most American meals. We skipped breakfast and lunch, then dinner at giant size. We eat fast and furious, and rarely do so with our families. According to the National Restaurant Association, one third of Americans say that fast food or restaurant-prepared are essential to the way they live. And those rare occasions when they eat at home? Two thirds of people eat food – which can not be called a dining room – in front of our television, according to AC Nielsen Co.
We have sacrificed the kitchen for convenience. The old memory, rituals, such as giving thanks, sit-down dinners, and talks of the family have disappeared. Meal preparation usually consists of fast inputs of dubious nutritional value. The late Julia Child thought the food was much more than a livelihood, and children should be taught that the kitchen is similar to that of art. As a parent, you can get cooking inspiration to see through the eyes of Julia Child, “… as creative and imaginative an activity as drawing, wood carving, or music.”
“Children … learn to be obese in an environment that encourages. If parents are eating poorly, that’s what we are giving to their children,” says Debra Haire-Joshu, RN, PhD, director of the Center for Prevention Obesity in St. Louis University School of Public Health. Haire-Joshu believe that obesity is a disease in the family and help children with a moderate diet, parents should eat healthier first. Read the rest of this entry »
